 Apart
from string of Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics, and
Industrial Training Institutions run by Technical Education
Department of Punjab Government which also comes to help
of industry, specialised centres for various sectors of
industry has been established by the Industry department.
Some of the specialised technical institutions present
in the state are as follows:

| The
Punjab government has set up a network of Quality Marking
Centres (common service centres for testing and certification),
Industrial Development Centres(IDC), Common Service Centres
(Testing) are located near Batala, Amritsar, Jalandhar,
Nakodar, near Ludhiana, Rajpura, Patiala, Bhatinda and
Moga. These IDC and other centres are extensively used
by small industry for testing of carrying out some process
which is not economical to be maintained by them. One
such centre is able to service a group of small scale
industries. The entrepreneur usually gets expansive process
done from these centres. Apart providing services these
centres help the small industry in improving their products.
These centres have been established for a particular sector
of Industry on the basis of concentration of that Industry
in the area. |

next generation of IDC and QMC hi tech R&D centres
for some emerging sector of Industries have been setup
with assistance of Government of India, UNDP and, UNIDO.
Few innovative features of these institutions are state
of the art equipments and participation of user industry
members in management of the facilities. |

 This
Rs 100 million project was setup by Punjab Government
with assistance of UNDP & UNIDO in 1984. In this centre
95 personnel are working to initiate and implement R&D
in the field of Bicycle and Sewing machine for the upgradation
of technology , improvement in quality and productivity.
The centre is fully equiped to provide the following facilities
to the Industry: |
To design and develop new models of bicycle & Sewing
Machines, Components, and accessories as per the latest
trend.
To develop complete package of Production technology for
new product.
To develop special purpose testing and production machine
, Low cost semi automatic and automatic machine for small
scale industry.
To develop special tooling , jigs, fixtures, and test
rigs which are being used for producing quality goods
for export.
To train manpower in small scale industry for energy conservation
and pollution control.
To give consultancy services for improvement in processing
techniques, Low cost automations, Modernisation of plant,
effluent treatment and quality control .
