Opportunities For Software Exporters at Mohali 1. STP Centre of DOE/ STPI operational The Software Technology Parks of India has established a centre at Mohali/Chandigarh. This centre's Director is the designated officer of the Department of Electronics, Government of India. 20 Software units have already been registered for software export through STP Mohali. The regulatory services have been started by STPI for its registered units. STPI is located at Plot No.B-99, Phase-VIll, ELTOP, Mohali. About 50 acres of land has been earmarked adjoining the Earth station for an I.T. Park which would ultimately consist of a Software Park (STP), an Electronics Hardware Technology Park (EHTP) and an Institute of Information Technology. 2. Ready to use space The STP would provide basic ready to use space with Telephone connection from the STPI EPABX. Power points, UPS connection, general security and bonded area, amongst other facilities. Units occupying space here could start operation immediately. Even pending the starting of this facility local rental of raw space today at Mohali is available at about Rs. 10.00 per Sq.ft. 3. Land for Software Unit A 50 acres plot within 0.5 km distance of Satellite Earth Station in Electronic Township of Punjab is available for establishing I.T.Park. It is proposed to allot some plots here for large software units. 4. Dedicated Satellite Earth Station The station is expected to start operations by 31 st March, 1998. The Station side radio mast will be operational with its TDMA and other communication equipment. User side links will be established when formalities are completed by individual users. 5. Common facilities Units operating from the STPI can use the common facilities of the complex like a conference room, FAX, Library, Xerox machines etc. 6. UPS & Full backup DG. Set (1 00 KVA) Uninterrupted Power Supply System and a Diesel Generating set are already installed and operational at the STPI. The Earth Station also has its own UPS and DG set for full back up power. 7. Software related Activities/lnstitutions at Mohali a) STPI : The Software Technology Park of India, Mohali is directly under of the administrative control of Department of Electronics, Govt. of India. b) NIC Regional Centres: The National lnformatics Centre, a body under the Planning Commission, Govt. of India, that has been the leader in computerisation in government, has 3 separate centres in the city for Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh. c) Software Houses Operating : In addition to corporate user, organisations like CMC, TCS, RCC, PUNCOM, CASE and many others are already operating here with advanced and state-of-the-art software in Industrial and Government sectors. There are also a number of local software houses operating in this region. Multi-media, application packages, systems software, Networking, RDBMS, Data processing, GUI based programming are commonly used by them.
