The
JJ Valaya label is essentially about weddings. I have
seen trends in wedding wear change in the last 10-12
years. But one thing that hasn't changed is that bit
of tradition which everyone wants for marriage outfits.
But there are a couple of things which have changed
in the past couple of years. The lean, mean look is
prevalent, so I would advise a slimmer, slicker lehenga
for the bride.
Voluminous
gathers are passé. Also in is the fit and flare
style, where the top is fitted and the lehenga has wide
flares at the bottom. Diaphanous or sheer fabrics are
in. So take your pick from net and lace.
These days, a lot of people are going in for two stoles
- a heavier one to drape and a lighter one to cover
the head with. Reds are the first choice for the big
day, though these days a lot of people come to me asking
for unusual shades like with lavenders, aubergines and
turquoises.
For
the men, achkans, sherwanis and churidar-kurtas
are fast replacing the three-piece suits. Though, the
colour palette for the groom still remains the good,
old nuetral shades - beiges, taupes, ivories and golds.
I
would advise the men to be more experimental. After
all, in earlier days, the maharajas used to dress up
in very ornatge clothing and still manage to look as
masculine and authoritative. My clients come to me with
very different needs and tastes. Everybody has a different
sytle. Ultimately, you should dress up keeping in mind
what suits one the best.
