Bhangrapop singer Sukhbir of Gal Ban Gaye is all set
to ride the wave of foot-tapping music. The Dubai-based
singer came to Delhi for a Channel V roadshow. Though
his music videos have been a rage, he loves the roar
of the crowd, going wild over his numbers. "He
says, I love roadshows. When I see people dancing around
and applauding, i really feel high." He is always
seen in his trademark dark glasses.
He
is looking forward to the public show as it gives him
an opportunity to perform away from the bright studio
and stage lighting. It allows him to look at everybody.
Sukhbir began hs singing career four years back. BMG
took interest in him after they saw a demo tape. That
luanched him on his first album.
Now
he is busy working on a new album under the BMG label.
That will have his usual peppy mis of bhangra numbers
set to dancing beats. he says he has done a Hindi number
in the new album which is dedicated to--hold your breath--women
and inspired by the likes of Lara Dutta and Yukta Mookhey.
He has also recorded a number on Punjab and its people.
The album is set for a January release.
He
admits to taking his time and avoiding a mad rush to
cash in on one's popularity. "I'm extremely choosy
and reject tunes if I'm not happy. I am here to make
melody and not only for big bucks." Sukhbir will
have bands like Silk Route, Euphoria and Pentagon performing
with him in his roadshow.
Widely
travelled, Sukhbir has lived in Nairobi, London and
now Dubai. He confesses he had no formal training in
music. Surprisingly, his early coaching in music was
with his father who used to sing as a priest in a gurdwara
in Nairobi. But his father was supportive and had no
objection to Sukhbir taking to pop music.
What
nest?
" May be a shot at playback singing in Bollywood."
