Bank
of Punjab opened its first branch at Chandigarh, in April
1995. In a short span of 5 years, the Bank has added many
firsts to its credit. It became the first bank to focus
on retail banking. The first bank in north India to install
a state-of-the Art ATM payment gateway allowing on line
transactions. The first bank to have introduced fax banking
and tele banking for its customers. Bank of Punjab has
57 banking offices spread across 8 states. Customers in
excess of 3,47,115 serviced by a team of 565 dedicated
professionals. The bank has established correspondent
banking relationships across 60 countries.
From a deposit base of Rs. 2780 million in the first year
ended March 1996, deposits of the bank have grown to Rs.
25000 million, in the year ended March 2000, an annualised
growth of 200% over the last 4 years. The Bank is positioning
itself at the leading edge of technology and is coming
out with various technology driven products and services
for its customers. On the anvil are Debit and Credit cards,
Smart Cards and Online e-commerce. The Bank has already
launched its e Banking services and mobile phone banking
for its customers and value added services The Bank is
putting in place a 24 hour customer care centre enabling
secure Online Banking and information services. Bank of
Punjab has made a strategic tie up with Master Card International
for its MASTERO and CIRRUS International Card Network.
Bank's own ATM Network at On-Site Branches and Offsite
locations will swell from existing 30 to over 200 in next
one year.
The Bank's reach is further being extended through over
3000 merchant establishments which would be accepting
the Bank's "ebank" card and the Maestro Debit Card from
Mastercard. By 2005, the bank is looking at a total business
volume of Rs 160 billion, deposits at Rs 100 billion and
a strong presence in Retail and Corporate Banking. |
