MILKFED-PUNJAB
The
Punjab State Cooperative Milk Producers Federation
Limited popularly known as MILKFED Punjab, came into existence
in 1973 with a twin objective of providing remunerative
milk market to the milk producers in the State by value
addition and marketing of produce on one hand and to provide
technical inputs to the milk producers for enhancement
of milk production on the other hand.
Although the federation was registered much earlier,
but it came to real self in the year 1983 when all the
milk plants of the erstwhile Punjab Dairy Development
Corporation Limited were handed over to Cooperative
sector and the entire State was covered under Operation
Flood to give the farmers a better deal and our valued
customers better products.Today, when we look back,
we think we have fulfilled the promise to some extent. The
setup of the organisation is a three tier system, Milk
Producers Cooperative Societies at the village level,
Milk Unions at District level and Federation as an Apex
Body at State level. MILKFED Punjab has continuously
advanced towards its coveted objectives well defined
in its byelaws

VERKA
Far away from the din and fast pace of the city, there
rests, near Amritsar,a sleepy village called Verka. Peaceful
in its seclusion, life crawls on its own pace. The cool
breeze, rustle of the banyan leaves, the chirruping of
the birds, the quite flow of the shimmering water besides
those soft folds of lush green, nestling a healthy cattle
grazing away to glory. A perfect picture of health and
happiness. Today, Verka has out-stripped its own boundaries
to reach our homes. Verka was there long before it came
to MILKFED . But then, it was the difference between
being there and making it big. When MILKFED took it
on, it believed that Verka had potential to do a lot
more. And it did. With little more of a consumer oriented
approach, Verka became a brand to reckon with. With
its growing outlets and thus easier availability, it
reached far and wide across the state and beyond. To
people today, Verka is part of their daily lives.

MILKFEDS
PROMISE
Milk was always there in Punjab, in plenty. And lots
to spare. So it flowed into thousand of homes. Good
enough ! But at a price not so good enough for toiling
farmers. For, milk exchanged hands through those of
middlemen who took away a major part of the farmers
profits. This was what made the MILKFED to step in.
It knew that farmers deserved much more and that things
could always be better with little more planning, controlling
and with the aid of modern technology.
IN
THE INTEREST OF FARMERS:
MILKFED,
with its network of over 5000 village Milk Producers
Cooperative Societies and over 3 lakh Milk Producers
form a strong network which not only provides assured
market to Milk Producers but also carries inputs to
milk production enhancement at their doorsteps.
SOCIAL OBLIGATION:
The awareness regarding family planning, nutrition and
health is more than even before. The immense job opportunities
are providing the farmers with better social standing
and confidence to move ahead in life.
EMPLOYMENT:
MILKFED and its units have a work force of about 5000
employees. Every morning and evening milk is lifted
from the villages through private transport vehicles
which is providing a regular employment to about 600
transporters. Most of them are self employed people.
Similarly and first aid workers are also finding employment
and at the same time providing input services to milk
producers right in their villages. More than 5000 village
cooperative societies are having 10000 workers to man
their milk procurement and technical input etc.
TECHNOLOGY
MISSION ON DAIRY DEVELOPMENT:
To accelerate the pace of increasing rural income and
employment through Dairy Development, Government of
India has set up TMDD. Under this programme, it has
been decided to dovetail the programme of Operation
Flood with State Government Programmes of Animal Husbandry,
IRDP etc. to have effective coordination.
MILK
DAY CELEBRATION:
Milk Days have been started to be observed in the entire
operation area of MILKFED. The main aim of these Milk
days is more interaction and strengthening of members
participation of the village cooperatives to inculcate
faith among them in their system. These milk days are
also used to have feed back from the participants about
the short-comings in Milk Cooperatives, for taking consequential
remedial actions.
