Milk was always a plenty in Punjab. But the middleman in control of marketing, siphoned away the major share of the farmer's profits. During seasons of plenty, the farmers were forced to drastically cut down their prices to sell off their surplus supplies. And during lean periods, milk production fell considerably, resulting in a shortage, unable to meet the market demand. With the onset of White Revolution in the country, Punjab recorded the highest per capita availability of milk putting it at par with the best in the world. Read More

Deadly Casuda destroys vegetation :Casuda - a deadly creeper - has been playing havoc with the green cover in Panchkula and its nearby areas for the past several years.Called amar bel in common parlance, the creeper has spread over almost all vegetation and plantations over the road dividers in different sectors of the township. Plants, saplings and shrubs have been overpowered by this parasite, thus endangering the ecological balance. Read More

The agricultural situation in the state changed dramatically with the consolidation of holdings, availability of canal water, tubewell irrigation and establishment of Punjab Agricultural University in 1962. With its strong research and extension education components, the university developed close interactive relationship with the agriculturists. The introduction of dwarf wheat germ plasm and cultivators from CIMMYT Mexico in 1964-65, it set the stage for wheat-based green revolution in the State. Read More

A new concept of integrated pest management was introduced to farmers to assist in general crop conditions and the ability to identify pests and diseases and their cures. Concentrated efforts are being made to popularise bio-fertilisers in the State as they play a pivotal role in farming today and a special Biofertiliser Unit has been recently set up in Ludhiana.
